Maybe it's just me but I hear more of the individual artist in these songs. Simple. Great album but not as good as Ogre Tones in my opinion. You can tell who wrote what and it sounds like it was pulled straight from their most recent solo album. Still, I love them and I buy it all.
Always a fan of King's X and this purchase reminds me why. So many bands use high pitched snare drums and that's the only thing I missed from the FHL album. This cd showcases their songwriting skills and good taste in guitar tone.
This latest offering from King's X has become one of my favorites very rapidly. The disc is loaded with tracs that draw you in with the blues-y melodic tightness that is King's X trademark, then reel you in with addictive hooks and choruses that beg you to join in. Perhaps their best ever. A must have.
I'm a long-time listener of King's X, but this is my first review. I'll show my cards up front: I consider their best albums to be "Faith Hope Love" and "King's X", although the quirky "Please Come Home" ranks highly too. I've enjoyed their recent work as well.King's X has explored so many different styles during their career (the funk of Manic Moonlight, the epic quirkiness of Please Come Home, the hard rock of Dogman and Tape Head) that it's almost possible to map each of the songs from their last two albums (Ogre Tones and this one) to an album. For example, I Just Want to Live and I Don't Know remind me of Please Come Home, Pray sounds like Tape Head, Blue sounds like Manic Moonlight, and a couple of the others hearken back to their earlier work.As always, the lyrical mix of tentative and searching (I Don't Know), sarcastic (Pray), serious but also nonsensical (Rocket Ship) and contemporary (Broke) keeps you thinking and wondering what's on their minds.4 stars for a great album, but still a little bit inside the lines of what we've come to expect from King's X.
I have been a King's X fan for 20 years. This album was awesome. It is one of their best stuff in a long time. I would reccommend it to anyone who likes the King's X sound.
